buttons-and-hate

I'm working off my buttons. But I'm also giving them away. The more I fall for Crow, the more I want him to do the things that I want. Dinners, dates, and evenings at the beach. Everything comes at a price, and quickly the hoard of buttons I worked hard to earn are depleted. Will this go back and forth forever? Or will someone run out of their buttons first? ...

The second book in the 'Buttons' series, 'Buttons and Hate' picks up right where 'Buttons and Lace' leaves off. Pearl is settling into her life with her new master. She's somewhat resigned to her fate, but determined to earn the buttons necessary to earn her freedom as quickly as possible.Little by little, a softer side of Crow is revealed. He clearly cares for Pearl far more than he's comfortable admitting to himself, or to her. The feeling is mutual, with Pearl guiltily enjoying her encounters with the man she knows she should hate. The closer the two get, the more Pearl recognizes her own power in their relationship. She uses that to her advantage, demanding a higher price for her affections. As her buttons build up, both of them are afraid that she'll be free long before they're ready to be rid of each other.Pearl begins to use her buttons to buy quality time with Crow. She wants more than just the steamy physical encounters they share. She wants to be courted and spend time getting to know her self-contained captor. Crow reluctantly agrees, desperate to reclaim some of the buttons and extend Pearl's captivity. When things take a turn for the worse, Pearl cannot deny the reality of her situation any longer. She is devastated. She knows that she must get out. She cannot keep lying to herself, believing that Crow shares her feelings. This series continues to hold my attention. Even though it is pretty predictable, I enjoyed every minute. It kept me at the edge of my seat and tugged at my heart. There was just enough emotional angst to keep me engaged, but not drive me crazy. I dived into the next book immediately.Check out more of my reviews at www.bookaddicthaven.com

“You’re playing with fire, Button.”“I am the fire.”This was the anti-thesis of sexy. I read all the chapters, and slowly yet surely each one made me want to squirm a tiny bit more and at one point, I even busted out the liquor. But let's not talk about 'busting something out', fuck knows I just read 400 pages of it. If I weren’t here to protect her, she would be vulnerable and alone. Even if Bones’s men came with guns I still wouldn’t move. I would cover her body with mine until I was pierced with bullet holes._________________Alex Attempts to explain her lack of interest through bullet points and gifs●"I need affection. I need attention. I need something.” Since she was a woman, I tried to understand her needs'● The grammar and punctuation in this book killed. me. The amount of errors could make up for the amount of sex this duo had. Let me tell you, they fucked constantly. ●It felt like we got a 'third POV' from Crow's cock. I shit you not, ladies and gentlemen - the thing got a personal pronoun and everything. Exhibit A:"I could stay buried inside forever. My cock wanted to make a home here and never leave."Reaction to aforementioned exhibit:● The Cringe: a) People fall in love and get married every day. Why is this so difficult for you to understand?” “I’m not people.” “Last time I checked you were.” Definitely not. I was a beast of the dark.b) "The sex was done and now we started at each other."Honestly, all in all the concept of this book pulled me in right from the get-go, but there were some factors that I just could NOT get under. Erotica is a type of genre that makes you feel things, and I sure did. Just not all those things can be considered desirable. There were small moments where I enjoyed reading about Crow and Button's story, but the predictability plus all the peeves made me wanna drop my damn kindle.

Dual POVs, first person Setting: Tuscany, ItalyTriggers: Yes. (view spoiler)[Violence. (hide spoiler)]I was wondering how this story would progress after book one's cliffhanger, but there was a lot of emotional push-and-pull in this story as Crow slowly untangled himself from those pesky feelings of denial. And--oh, my--how the tables have turned in this book! She came to me as a prisoner, but I quickly realized I’d become the prisoner.I belonged to her.Yes, Crow sort of drove me crazy in this story, in spite of all of those steamy-times scenes, but I warmed up to his character more in this book than in book one. The stroke of luck Button was handed at the end felt a bit too coincidental, but once again, this book was captivating enough to keep me drawn to these characters. Looking forward to reading book three!**ARC kindly provided by author in exchange for an honest review.

Buttons and HatePenelope Sky⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️***THIS IS A RANT REVIEW***I warned yah. You broke my heart once again Crow. Why do you always do that! I am really heart broken right now I even debated if I should write a review or not. But I might as well pour my heart out rather than wait for months moping and wondering what will happen to Crow and Pearl. I knew it in my gut this will result in a heartbreak, Crow cannot admit to himself that he really loves Button and he's too damn stubborn. Who wouldn't fall in love with Crow, I mean come on! Even I will really be confused about the mixed signals he is giving. Vanilla, soft kisses, gentle touch and those looks? I MEAN COME ON!!! Sorry I was out of line. The story took off where it ended. I was really glad this time cause I saw improvements in their relationship. One moment I was on cloud 9 and then the next came the heartbreak-s, plural. Sky did a good job portraying how they feel with each other, when you read through the lines, when you relate, it seems like you are also on the picture with them. I really cant wait for May 2017 to come. The day it came out, the day I got my hands on this book, it didn't take me 4 hours to read it. Bathroom and snack break included. Get ready for another yet exciting ride with Crow and Pearl. Prepare for a lot of hertbreaks and and an erotic ride of a lifetime. This baby is definetely a 5 star for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

To start, I have a few disclaimers:1st: If you haven’t yet read Buttons and Lace… GO AWAY! Lol!! There will be spoilers in this review from book one. You can find my spoiler-free review of Buttons and Lacehere.2nd: TRIGGERS for those who don’t want to read dark romance. Book one will touch (bang, ram, slam, crash into, take a sledgehammer to) any and all sensitive bases, but if you’ve made it this far you should be good to go.3rd: Buttons and Hate does end on a cliffhanger. I wish I had the patience to wait until all of them were published so I can binge read for two days… But, alas. Here I am: nails bitten, hair askew, and almost out of wine. Lastly, I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Pene, honey, you my boo! ♥Alrighty. Let’s jump in!When we start Buttons and Hate, we find Pearl still devastated from learning that it was Jacob (the piece of crap boyfriend) who sold her into slavery. Crowe, being the Denier of Feelings that he is, tells her to suck it up and move on. Her desolation, her emptiness at Jacob's betrayal and the realization that she no longer has a home has made her into a shell of who she once was, and Crowe's rage and threats of violence have no chance of pulling her out of that depression. His fingers loosened on my neck, and his expression changed. Something happened deep inside him. He saw a flicker in my eyes. He saw something break in my soul. He finally saw the aftermath of my heartbreak. One thing that definitely can't be subdued for long is Pearl's fire. Her fight, her unbreakable strength is what's kept her alive, and what attracted Crowe to her in the first place. That strength has taken some hard hits, and more come throughout the course of B&H. I wish I could say that Pearl has endured her quota and all it's hearts and roses from here on out, but that's just not in the cards for my girl. Under the shadow of darkness her flame burns the brightest, and even snuffed, it only takes a spark to light it back up. The spark, in this instance, is empathy. The second Crowe shows sympathy for what Pearl is feeling she snaps back and begins to thaw. They have such effects on each other, Crowe and Pearl. They feel each other's emotions just as strongly as their own. Reading B&H is watching their relationship blossom, it's seeing two damaged, dark individuals create light when they're together. With Pearl back to herself, what also returns is her need to collect buttons from Crowe. She may not have a home to return to, but it wouldn't matter even if she did without the currency to buy her freedom. Step one is to be free. Her desire for freedom had returned, and that turned me the fuck on. Her fire was back, raging with flames so hot they were blue. She was combative and hostile, her strength matching mine."I have something in mind worth twenty buttons. But I'm not sure you can handle it.""I can." Her eyes didn't hesitate. She kept her resolve, never caving in to the fear. She was determined to do it. She was determined to get out of there as quickly as possible."Then let me show you."The heat generated between these two!Things are peaceful for a while, with Pearl and Crowe becoming closer than ever. But darkness is quick to descend again, and then again. I'm convinced Pearl is the strongest heroine I've ever seen. What she endures, what she overcomes, would destroy anyone else. There's only one person capable to truly breaking Pearl, one person who could shatter her spirit beyond repair, one person who could hurt her so badly she'd never completely recover, and only when she is at her most vulnerable.Buttons and Hate isn't an easy read, and I'm pretty sure that's going to be true for the series as a whole. But it's an amazing read.Anxiously awaiting book three. 5 big fat stars. ★★★★★ Cheers!

4 "dramatic culmination" starsPearl and Crow's interactions are thriving towards the deep waters as the acknowledgment of the state and the lingering sense of change sets a different tone to it, they both fight the sensation and they both try to deny it...while they play the "buttons" gameIt was my currency to get the things I needed. That was the only value they held nowCrow is a ruthless man, and he never loved anyone, besides the closest members of his family and they were the victims of the hate assassination by Bones and he never really recuperated from that loss, building his stance upon revenge, planning and ploting his time and pace...But now, Pearl is the only woman who pushed the barriers, who opened him up, who touched the inner parts he thought died long time ago and that terrified him to the core...I let my guard to expose myself, to show her that some scars don't heal. You just have to live with them...But I made myself too vulnerable in the process. So, inspite of the fact that she shook him up, and he build up more walls around him, while hurting her along the way...I needed to reestablish our relationship. I was the master, ans she was my slave. She was working off her debt so she could leave. That was it and nothing more.BUT the actions between them only point to the fact that they are both in huge denail, all the actions revolving her, around her and about her, turn him into a fierce, obsessively protective mode, acting against his own brother Cane, who still wants to execute the revenge for the loss of their sister, through Pearl, by hurting the prized possesion they took from Bones, so they could rile him up and make him slip and make a mistake, so that they can get him, once and for all...BUt Crow finds himself at the crossroads, as the pressure from his brother becomes an actual threat to Pearl's life, and the very reaction in his protectivness turns him against his own kin...But finally setting the records straight, Crow, Cane and Pearl develop a plan to lure Bones out in the open, so they can deal with him and take him down. BUT in the meantime, the tension, sexual passionate exploration that moves the limits of their own hidden pleasures and desires, Crow and Pearl reach a place of unknown where the unspoken emotional twist comes out loud and burst the haze of futile denial, setting them two steps behind, in unsecure, shaky waters...I just want more from you. I need affection. I need attention. I need something.I like it when you let your walls down. I like when you reveal who you truly are. - PearlI'm not a romantic guy. I don't make love. I do those things just for the buttons. I do them so you'll stay in my possession for as long as possible. Because I love hurting you-very much.I'm sorry you choose to believe a fairy tale over reality. I thought you were smarter than that. I thought you were stronger than that. - CrowNot really wanting to let her go, but not really wanting to admit to what he feels, his stuborness and coldness hurts Pearl all over again and she shuts down her motion once more and hardens again over another shattered mosaic of emotions...I closed off my mind just as I did when I was a prisoner of Bones. I completed tasks without considering the details.I had 275 buttons. That meant I only needed ninety more....So close.I want to get the hell away from this place. I want to get away from you. I want to get away from everything.Their "on/off" interactions are pretty intense and frequent as they deal with their own reasoning of the matters of the heart they both don't want to acknowledge or really act upon...My stubbornness got me into that mess in the first place. I wanted to keep her at a distance and hide my infatuation with her, but the second I almost lost her, the game changed...I had to come clean and admit she did mean something to me.but then Bones cuts them off, and intercepts their actions. Pearl is taken away, before Crow could get to her rescue...but she won't take any chances, she's been through emough already and she won't give up, she takes her fate into her own hands and fights over and over for her freedom...The second installment throws us into the emotional/sexual turmoil between the main characters, while they deal with the inner drama, the secondary decisions and ploys set the motion into action and more drama issues. The pacing has a somewhat "jo-jo" effect with the ups and downs of the slowish, mellow tone interchanging with the harsher, faster ones but it doesn't diminish the tension or the drama. Even though there were parts that I found a bit annoying and maybe a bit cliche, the very ending leaves a palpitation strong as well as a bittersweet taste of a cliffhanger result. Eager to see what will happen next...

The second installment of theButtons Trilogy was a much awaited book that was sooo worth the wait.Buttons & Hate almost picks up right whereButtons & Lace left off, with a few days gap where Pearl a.k.a Button is still recovering from the betrayal of a loved one, her fight dwindling inside her, while Crow comforts and supports her in her grief. The writing was a lot more improved than the last time and there were often moments that were described in such an intense detail that a reader couldn't help but whole-heartedly enjoy it.Her words dragged across my skin and made me bleed everywhere.Crow made it so easy to fall in love with him in this second book. I had a hard time believing he was the same cold, cruel and ruthless character from the first book. As Pearl works her way in his heart, deeper and deeper, we see a lot new likeable aspects of his new different side that intrigues the readers and makes then go all swooning over his soft and sensitive inner man.Pearl, being stronger than ever, continues to grow stronger and more beautiful while her vulnerable and flawed side also comes out for the readers to witness it. Yet she refuses to back down or quiver in fear. She learns from her mistakes and moves on quickly when she has been hurt, be it mentally or physically. She is perfect the role-model for a kickass heroine. All mouthy and sexy.Buttons & Hate is a kind of story that you once pick up, it will keep you bound and enamored in its grip and trap you under all its heated, intense and thrilling moments.A perfect read for passing time in leisure while experiencing some goosebumps, wry humor and thrill at the same time.Surely recommended for Dark Romance and Suspenseful Thriller Lovers.

STORY: 3 starsPERFORMANCE: 4 starsOVERALL: 3-3.5 starsSTORYWhile listening to the first 40% of this audiobook, I continuously found myself wondering why this book had such high ratings. For one reason, there was more than one occasion when the female captive could have easily escaped yet the author glossed right over these potential escape scenes that were so obvious to me (Crow lets Pearl handcuff him to a bed yet he never thinks that she might be doing it so that she can escape). About 45% into the book, there's an event that changes the pace of the storyline and changes it for the better. From there until about 90% in, I was glad I stuck through. Unfortunately though, the ending completely ruined the book for me. First of all, there is a ridiculous cliffhanger and because things had gone stagnant during the last 10%, I have no desire to find out what happens in the next book. I truly don't understand why this book has such a high average rating; I was very disappointed.PERFORMANCEI listened to the audiobook narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo and Samantha Cook. Mr. Ferraiuolo did an adequate job of speaking as the female main character yet his primary, male voice was, IMO, a bit too aristocratic and snobby sounding at times. Although these adjectives do describe the billionaire Master, for me I felt that his voice often sounded pretentious. Ms. Cook on the other hand delivered a flawless performance. It was obvious that she's had acting experience, has been narrating for quite some time or both.

Buttons and Hate has been one of my most anticipated reads of 2017. I have been absolutely obsessed with Pearl and Crow and could not get my hands on book two fast enough! In all honesty, this book was just as addicting as book one! I was just as consumed with their passion, story and developing relationship. Book two begins right after book one ended where Pearl learns of her boyfriend, Jacob's treachery. As a result, for the first time, she is defeated and feels like there is nothing worth fighting for. The author does a wonderful job making the reader FEEL Pearl's helplessness. She has no will to escape anymore as she feels there is nothing waiting for her at home."My body was unable to feel anything anyway. It was numb from the blow over Jacob, and that ice would never thaw. I was hopeless, having nothing and no one to believe in. Whether I was there as his prisoner or back at home, I was still alone with no one to trust. He could hurt me all he wanted, but I probably wouldn’t feel anything anyway." Surprisingly, because of Pearl's defeated spirit, we see a much different side of Crow than we saw in book one. Yes he is still ruthless, arrogant and cold at times, but we see more of his empathetic and nurturing side. I personally loved this. His true emotions and feelings he tried so hard to bury deep inside after the senseless kidnapping and murder of his sister begin to emerge. It was an amazing role reversal of sorts. He was the fighter that Pearl needed to help bolster her dwindling fire and passion.Although I did have some issues with consistency in some areas which pulled me out of the story a bit, I absolutely loved this book. I was engaged and enthralled with the characters and the story and days later, still can't get Crow and Pearl out of my head. Of course after reading this book, my grabby hands can't reach for Buttons and Pain fast enough but that is solely due to Ms. Sky's phenomenal storytelling ability. Bravo! 4.25 stars ~Ratula

3.5 stars . This was good , there were a lot of similarities to books that we've already read before yet there was something about Crow and Button's story that makes you wanna continue reading and not stop till you've reached the very last page . Crow was a little , teeny tiny bit little , annoying with his constant back and forth about his feelings for Pearl . And Pearl , I have got no words for just strong and resilient she is ... I mean , she is just awesome !

Buon pomeriggio, lettori!

5 button stars*(This story requires you to read Buttons & Lace first!!!)*Buttons and Hate certainly did NOT disappoint! I LOVED it so so SO much! I won't spoil anything for you so I'll try to keep it as short as possible! Here's what I WILL tell you though: Crow and Pearl still have an astonishing chemistry! I didn't think it could be possible, but their chemistry is even better than in Buttons & Lace! I loved, loved, l.o.v.e.d. them together so freaking much!!!This book is even more captivating and it kept me drawn to these characters! (Bravo Mrs Penelope Sky) You will fall in love with them all over again!I'm anxiously awaiting Buttons and Pain! I literally don't think I can wait until May.

*Audiobook*I was afraid to continue after book one. My original experience with book one was not stellar. I gave it a second chance and loved it! I was curious about Pearl and her journey so I continued with book two. This story knocked me on my ass! The level of obsession one man has for Pearl befuddles the mind! I love the drama in book two! It's so dark and DELISH! I can't tell you how excellent the characters and scenes are in book two! No spoilers so I gotta shut up like NOW!Ecstatic book 3 is available and waiting on yours truly! Get the series! Five stars! Get the series. It's amazing! Get. The. Series!

3-3.5 StarsWhere the heck was the proof readers/beta readers/editor on this book? I really don’t think there was a read through because there is no way nobody detected what a hot mess it was. Pretty sad really because it was so distracting and definitely took away from the flow and story as a whole. I was doing a group read with my book besties and we all agreed that this book was clearly rushed. So instead of the storyline standing out in my mind what I remember is that someone dropped the ball on this one. That being said I would like to see where this story goes therefore I will be reading the next one and hoping that editing won’t be an issue again.

Soooooo, I felt like the wait for Book 2 was endless.... (that's how much I loved the first book and couldn't wait for this one!) With that said, I'm giving 3 stars. The book dragged on and on, sex being the only storyline. Don't misunderstand me, I always love the heat in books, BUT....the story needs to keep its momentum. I felt like the characters were just lingering, not moving forward or backward. Yes, I will read Book 3 just for closure and because it ended in a cliffhanger.UPDATE: I STOPPED AT 3. THE AUTHOR SHOULD HAVE AS WELL!

This one was definitely a lot better. Of course bc we get our main 2 characters together more. Yes there is a cliffy bc I only wish the next one is out so I can read it now. My predictions in the next book are: Crow is going to experience "absence makes the heart grow fonder" about his feelings for Pearl. and there is the whole "Bones" situation. I'm excited to see how the next book is going to end.

While Crow still sees himself as the bad guy and promises to do terrible things to Pearl, as the book progresses his actions and demeanor make a drastic change. He becomes obsessed with Buttons and knows that he'll regret making the deal to set her free. I loved watching the relationship (as unconventional as it is) progress between these two but when Buttons finally admits her love for Crow everything changes once again. I can't wait for the final installment in this series.
