Rough Translation Reviews
John Talbot is the best professor I've ever had, and his poetry classes are remarkable. The man is brilliant. He's a Classicist, so he brought to the English department an anachronistic sensibility that is sorely missing in English departments. His poetry is a perfect representation of the intelligent, witty, tangential, insightful and humorous lectures he gives at university. His poems for Sandy are beautiful, and his understanding of ancient Greek and Roman cultures blends perfectly in his verse. He's a fantastic modern poet — not quite a new formalist, but not quite anything else, either. His voice is absolutely his own, and he can't get the smell off of him (no matter how hard he tries to trick you in the first poem of the book).
